Numbered list titled How to Live a Peaceful Life, including keep your routine simple, protect your sleep and walk daily

Peace is often pictured as something far away: a cabin in the woods, a long vacation, a future version of life when everything finally calms down. But a short, practical list making the rounds online suggests peace is built much closer to home, through ordinary daily choices.

The graphic is titled “How to Live a Peaceful Life,” and its nine points read less like rules and more like quiet commitments.

The Nine Commitments

  1. Remove people who constantly disturb your mind.
  2. Keep your daily routine simple and predictable.
  3. Say no to anything that drains your energy.
  4. Stop trying to fix people who don’t want change.
  5. Protect your sleep like medicine.
  6. Spend more time in quiet places.
  7. Walk daily to clear mental noise.
  8. Limit screens, especially in the morning and night.
  9. Keep your home clean; mess creates anxiety.

Peace Through People

The first, third and fourth points are all about relationships and energy. “Remove” can sound harsh, but it doesn’t always mean cutting someone off. Sometimes it means seeing them less, sharing less, or responding more slowly. And letting go of the urge to fix people who don’t want change frees up an enormous amount of emotional space.

Peace Through Rhythm

A simple, predictable routine might sound dull, but it gives your mind fewer decisions to wrestle with. Pair that with protected sleep and screen-free mornings and evenings, and your days start to feel steadier from the edges inward.

Peace Through Place

Quiet places, daily walks, and a tidy home all speak to the same truth: your surroundings shape your inner state. You don’t need a perfect house. Clearing one surface, one drawer, or one corner can make a room feel lighter. A short walk without headphones can work like a reset button for a busy mind.

Start With One

Nine changes at once is a recipe for overwhelm, which is the opposite of peace. Instead:

  • Choose the commitment that feels easiest, not the one that feels most impressive.
  • Practice it for one week.
  • Notice what shifts, in your mood, your sleep, your patience.
  • Add the next one only when the first feels natural.

This doesn’t happen overnight. But peace built from small, repeated choices is the kind that lasts, because it isn’t waiting on anyone or anything else.

Which commitment will you begin with this week?
